What are the major strengths and weaknesses of the instructor?

  • Professor Riely is incredibly patient with all student questions and answers them in a concise manner each time.
  • he is good at encouraging students and has time to explain.

What aspects of this course were most beneficial to you?

  • Professor Riely's extensive knowledge showed through his lectures and I learned how to apply the techniques taught in class to real world settings.
  • Understanding data structures and how to code in java.

What suggestions do you have that could help improve the course?

  • Honestly, this has been the best CDM course ive taken so far. Previous courses have atrocious grading scales that punishes adult/transfer students that are juggling a full time job, external responsibilities and mental wellbeing. Laxer grading scales would do wonders.
  • how to code in java properly after taking python prior to this class.

Do you have comments on the grading procedures and exams?

  • I wish CDM wasn't so hardball with their exams. Not only are the homework difficult, turns out in the grand scheme of things that the stress in doing well on the exams overshadows all goodness that comes from homework. I would suggest not making homework so expensive if the exams are going to have such a say for my GPA. Speaking as a transfer student with external responsibilities standpoint.
  • none

Other comments?

  • Start teaching Java from the introductory courses, its braindead easy to learn Python when I would prefer to learn about efficient programs and the actual makeup of the for loops, etc.
